Communication

White homework binders were passed out on Monday. It is expected that these binders come to school EVERYDAY. Not only is it teaching them great habits of keeping their work neat, it is also a place for you and I to communicate. This is where you can leave notes for me, return papers that need to be signed, etc.

On the back of the binder you will see the Alpha Friends. Please keep that in the binder as it will help them all year with reading and sound spelling. You will find the song, “Who Let The Letters Out”, on the CD that was in the packet we handed out this summer. (Let me know if you did not receive this packet). They are now learning the words and the hand motions. Practice every night!

Don’t forget….save the date

Save the date!! MONDAY, August 3rd, I will be presenting information for Curriculum Night at 5:30 in the classroom. This is for parents only. I will be providing a lot of information regarding academic expectations, homework, and ways to help your child be successful at school. I will also be available to answer any questions you have specific to our class. I highly encourage you to attend this event! There will not be childcare provided, so please plan accordingly.

communication with color cards

Please note this picture does not match our class color system. We have condensed the colors to 4 – purple, green, yellow and orange. I realized I need to better communicate your child’s day (good or not so good) so you know why they received the color they did. From now on, if your child has a day other than green, I will take their card, date it on the back and write a brief explanation. This is just in case we don’t have a chance to quickly chat at the door. Thank you for your patience with this while I work out the kinks!

New Behavior System – with 4 colors

For our class to become successful and for my students to become the best citizens that they can be in our class, it is important that we have a behavior system that is put into place and consistent. I ask for your support in this system that I have decided to use and put into place. As the system will be new to our little Kinders, we will be routinely using it and giving consequences, rewards, calls home, and so forth.

We are using a chart in the classroom that has four different levels. The purple level is “Excellent”, the green level is “Ready to learn”, the yellow level is “Oops”, and the orange level is “Had a bad day”. Each student has a clothespin attached to this chart, to show where they are, in terms of behavior. Each morning the students start on GREEN, which ensures me that they are ready to learn and begin the day on a positive note. Being at this level is great and rewarding. If a child does not move from this level all day, it means that they were on task all day and doing what was asked of them. From this green level, they can move up to Excellent, which shows that they went beyond the classroom norms. Each day your child will bring a card home, to help communicate their behavior for the day. If your child moves down to “Oops” or “Had a bad day” please have a discussion with your child, sign it on the back and return the following day. I will be communicating with you as to why they earned a blue or orange card. At the beginning of each morning, we all start on green! We all have bad days, but let’s prepare our Kinders to be READY TO LEARN each and every day.

Card Collection: When students earn 20 points, they should bring their cards back to the classroom in a Ziploc bag, which has their name on it. Here they will count their 20 points out loud, and then be allowed to choose a prize in the treasure box. Prizes will occur every Friday for those children with 20 points.
Purple = 2 points
Green = 1 point
Yellow= 0 points 
Orange = 0 points  

Thanks for your cooperation and understanding. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns about the behavior process.

I will honor any blue “GO ROBO” tickets and swap them out for a green ticket!

KINDER CURRICULUM NIGHT DATE CHANGE

I sent home a notice today (Monday, July 27th) to let families know that due to my family obligations, our curriculum night has been changed and will be on MONDAY, AUGUST 3rd @ 5:30 pm (1 session only) and will take place in the classroom. There will be NO child care provided for this event and students will NOT be allowed to play on the playground. I highly recommend to come without your child so I can answer any questions you may have and share all important information.

Reminder

Just a friendly reminder that Kinder has a 2:30 dismissal time, 15 minutes earlier than the other grades. Students who are not picked up by 2:35 will be walked to the office and will need to be picked up there. ID’s will be needed for office pick up.

Week 2

I had a great first week with all of my new Kinder Friends. Each day we made improvements with following the rules, stamina and using our best listening ears. The real test will be this next week, as the students will have full days of school (8:15-2:30), Monday-Thursday, and early dismissal (8:15-1:00), Friday. Expect your child to be tired on Monday! Here are some reminders:

Color Days will start next week: Monday is wear RED day! The flyer was sent home last week in my Welcome packet. —-> see beginning school resources – color days

Lunch: Students will be eating lunch at school on Monday. Students eat lunch at 10:45 and we do an afternoon snack/recess. If you are packing a lunch for your child, discuss with them that they need to save one item for afternoon snack. It may be a good idea to mark this with the letter S or the word snack. If your child is buying lunch, please make sure to pack a snack still, as the school does not provide snack. Remember to pack items that they can easily open on their own. It is good to practice this at home. I always have them TRY before I step in and help. We are creating independent learners in Kindergarten!

Clothing: Great job with this on the first week! All students were able to use the restroom and take care of their own bodies. Hats are okay at recess, but I will have students put hats in their backpack during our learning time. PLEASE make sure your student wears shoes that they can manipulate themselves. If they can not tie shoes yet, have them wear a different option. *All shoes must be closed toe, no sandals.

Homework binders: I will provide these on Monday. Inside the binder will be a sheet of Alpha Friends. Please keep it in the folder and practice the sounds every night. Binders are to come to school everyday as it is going to be a mode of communication for us, as well as a organization keeper for your child to take home their work from the day.

Incoming Kinder Packet: Many of you picked up an Incoming Kinder packet this summer at the office. This packet has many resources for you to practice at home (learning CD, suggested apps, handwriting sheet, etc). If you DID NOT pick this up, please contact me so that I can send one home.

Thank you for being respectful in my morning procedures of saying goodbye at our line or at the gate. You will be amazed at how independent they will be by the end of the year!

Thank you to families that have donated supplies, I truly appreciate it. If you have any questions feel free to email me. Thank you!

(I know that was A LOT of information) 🙂
